in the room.
"30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 So they rose up that very hour..."

WHAT IS MAR?
At it's core MAR, is a gathering of young people who want to know God and explore what it could look like to make Him known.
Formerly known as Waterwalkers Conference, MAR is a peer-to-peer gathering carried out in a conference format. Through careful supervision of pastors and mentors, students lead each other in the word, worship, and discipleship. There are no 'known' speakers or musical artists. Young people in the audience and on the stage. Our hope is to create an opportunity for the students to make sober commitments to Jesus and to be strengthened by seeing their peers run with passion after him. Our desire is to become a culture of young people who want what Jesus wants and carry that into our churches and communities.
For the church. For the city.
Jesus says in John 17:18 that he is sending us into the world, we want to invest in a church culture that welcomes and explores this thought. A culture of intercessors and activists; preachers and artists; a culture of love inside the church and a culture of love outside the church. These are two days where people can unapologetically experience Jesus, to then go and do what He asks. Where we can ask for his heart towards our communities, high schools, universities, and work places- get it and run with it. We want our legacy is to be Excellence in Jesus and Excellence in communicating Jesus. This is not done by complicating what we believe, rather simplifying it through an experience both personal and corporate-- to attract an audience that has grown cold to the message or thinks they are too far the message cannot reach them. We can reach both, by building and establishing a church culture whose hope is to look and sound more like Jesus everyday.

AN EXCERPT FROM OUR INTERVIEW WITH VALLEY CHRISTIAN MAGAZINE...
Who is MAR for?
MAR is for the curious and the crazy. It’s for the church of right now and for the church of tomorrow. Any high school and college student that wants to meet other young people curious and crazy enough to believe God can use them — this is for them.
The promo video we see on the MAR website is striking but also vague. What exactly are we seeing when we watch this promo?
You’re seeing unrest. We want to the video to speak for itself, but for sake of clarity an A.W. Tozer quote captures the tone: He said, “the messenger of Christ, though he speaks from God, must also — ‘speak to the condition’ of his hearers; otherwise he will speak a language known only to himself…”. It is very clear that that there is unrest in our communities. We look at the social and racial climate in america and the rest of the world and it’s not exactly rainbows and unicorns. We might ask, “where is God in all this” — well the promo is our way of starting a conversation and entertaining the idea that He is not far. That he is— pause for dramatic effect— in the room. (walked right into that one)
The theme of the conference is "in the room". What exactly does that phrase mean?
It alludes to the topic we want to discuss this year which is presence, presence of God to be specific. What it means to be in it, what it feels like to have it and to be without it— and how those two can often look more similar than they do different. Jesus is very much present and we want to talk about that.
What happens after MAR in the life of the students?
What we have seen in the past is that we see students get connected to the local church and we see dreams receive new life. Not only do we hear back from students saying that they were encouraged, but that they felt challenged to go to their local church and build a community of young people just like they met at the two day event. So many things happen afterwards — but the main thing as that every attendee falls more in love with Jesus, and that’s the best part. Being fascinated with the Character of the God Man— it changes everything— the way you approach relationships, friendships, our careers- Jesus really becomes this compass, in the best way possible!
